What a day!

Scott Pye has taken Mobil 1™ Boost Mobile Racing to the top step of the podium with his first career win in race 5 of the championship at the Australian Grand Prix.

In what was one of the best drives you will see, he held off the field, and the weather, to cross the line first in the 25-lap race.

It was a great team result as well, with James Courtney crossing the line in fifth, up from his starting position of 11th.

The race itself couldn’t have been much tougher. The light was fading, and the heavens opened late.

Off the line, Scott picked up second, but by the start of the second lap, he was P1 after McLaughlin ran wide at turn 1.

From that point, he never looked back.

He held off all undercut chances from behind at his first stop, keeping the field in the rear vision mirror.

Even when the rain started to fall, and some gambled on putting wets, he kept his cool and charged on.

With three laps to go, a moment into turn 13 allowed Whincup to close the gap, but Scott put his head down and drive flawlessly.

JC didn’t take the gamble on wets tyres either, helping his catapult up the order. A five-second penalty for contact with Lowndes relegated him back a spot, but it was still a fantastic drive.

Earlier in the day, the boys got the day off to a solid start in race two of the weekend.

It was a wet and windy, with constant rain falling meaning the a 13-lap sprint was done on wets.

Scott Pye was one of the only drivers in the first half of the field to progress forward.

He moved from his 14th grid position, to 11th, just missing out on his fourth consecutive top 10 finish in as many races this year.

The news for JC wasn’t as good. After starting 23rd, he made his way up as high as 16th, before being turned around by Le Brocq, who drive straight into the rear quarter panel of car 25, looping him right around.

After dropping back to the rear of field, he recovered to 21st, but just ran out of laps to do anything more.

What a day, what a drive by Scott.

A big thank you to everyone for their support. This one is for you.

Now we will go again tomorrow, for one final race of the weekend.

Scott Pye

“A really special day today, certainly in those conditions to get the win was a very special moment.

“Great job by the boys, the pit stop again was fast, they did a great job. The calls at the end were the right ones, and they paid off.

“It was a close call at the end when I locked the rears just after I adjusted the brake bias and had to go on the defence, but I knew the car was fast enough to get the win.

“A very special moment to get the first one, I’m really proud of the team, and it’s one that is going to stay with me for a long time.”

James Courtney

“Congratulations to Scott and the whole team on the result today, it’s really cool to see him get his first win and the whole team get rewarded.

“It was sketchy out there in the second race that’s for sure, I just had to keep my cool and keep it straight.

“It was great to get up to where we finished, a nice bag of points and the car is straight and ready for tomorrow. One more to go.”
