Walkinshaw Andretti United has temporarily relocated assets of the race team and certain crew members to Sydney Motorsport Park, to ensure the continuation of the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
Bryce Fullwood, along with 11 crew members are currently residing in New South Wales, based across the road from the Sydney Motorsport Park precinct.
Chaz Mostert remains in Queensland, and is free to travel to Sydney for the event next week.
After it was announced that Victoria’s borders would be shut to all Melbourne-Metro residents at 11:59pm last night, the team raced the clock to cross into New South Wales before borders were closed, in order to compete at the Truck Assist Sydney SuperSprint on July 18-19.
It was a monumental effort by the crew to not only get the truck packed with two cars and spares in a matter of hours, but also to leave their families behind for the good of the team and the sport.
All traveling crew members will follow COVID-19 testing protocols tomorrow, before continuing to work on both cars out of the Sydney Motorsport Park garages, in preparation for the Truck Assist Sydney SuperSprint in 11-days’ time.
A thank you to Palm Trans for assisting with the transport of parts and spares from Melbourne to the team in Sydney.
Thank you also to our fantastic partner group for their support.
Stay tuned for a look inside our unique preparations during the week.
Bruce Stewart - Team Principal
“Like in any good team sport, when one person falls down, another person stands up.
“It’s a phrase they use in football but it is so apparent and relevant to what we had yesterday, and it’s bloody cool to see a significant number of people willing to step up into a gap that became available.”
“Really it was a matter of actioning the guys, working out who could move and who could go with the team and try to put the best team on the track.”
“The biggest part of it that blows you away is the passion of the team and the commitment to the cause to actually do that at the drop of a hat, on three hours’ notice. That’s when you go, ‘wow, we have got a great team here’. Not many workplaces can do that. As hard as it is, it gives you really good insight into the depth of passion and commitment from your team.
“I can’t thank them, or our partner group enough for their support right now. We are all looking forward to seeing cars back out on track next weekend.”
