A top 10 finish for Ryan Wood on Saturday in Adelaide whilst the bad luck for Chaz continued after suffering a clutch issue on the formation lap which he dealt with the entire race.
It was not the start to the weekend the team were after with Race 23 qualifying session ending before Ryan Wood and Chaz Mostert could set indicative lap times resulting in Ryan starting P15 and Chaz P18. Having shown top five pace in the practice sessions it was a disappointing result.
250km’s around the streets of Adelaide is not an easy feat, add in 37 degree heat - it would be a grueling race for the drivers and crew, but they were hungry to charge through the field.
The bad luck for the weekend continued for Chaz on the formation lap when the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 suffered a clutch issue meaning he had to start the race from the pit lane.
Ryan one of the biggest movers in the opening laps, plunging the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 down the inside on multiple cars worked his way up seven positions in the opening stint.
Battling with the clutch issue for Car 25, an additional layer was added to the pit stop with Chaz needing to turn the car off whilst the four tyres were changed.
In the middle stint, it was eyes forward for both drivers who worked their way forward but struggled with tyre life toward the end of the stint, pitting with 30 laps to go.
Temperatures were heating up with the drivers dealing with 51-degrees in the cabin, and the front left tyre reaching 150 degrees, temperatures we have never seen before.
Ultimately, P10 and P13 was all we had today, both drivers up five positions from where they started, pushing themselves and the cars to the limit.
Today was a tough one, it only fuels us for a stronger day tomorrow, the crew will be hard at work to come back for redemption on the last day of school.
Chaz Mostert
I don’t remember walking under a ladder this week, we didn’t have much luck with qualifying and then the clutch drama during the race but the team kept their heads high.
Today was tough, it wasn’t the way we wanted to fight back, we wanted to put on a show for the fans, a massive thanks to everyone who came out today, that heat was nasty, so we appreciate everyone who’s here.
It’s the last day of school tomorrow and we want to make sure we finish off the year strong, it’s a good thing the chalkboard is wiped clean, and we all start fresh in the morning.
Ryan Wood
That was a tough one, I’ve never been in this sort of heat before let alone raced in it, I will definitely sleep well tonight.
I can’t be too disappointed with a top 10 finish today, the credit goes to the crew for that one, they executed perfectly at both stops and gave me an awesome strategy, I couldn’t have asked more from them.
It’s the last day of the year tomorrow, I’m ready to go out and shake off that ‘Rookie’ title and reward the crew with some strong results, let’s get after it!
