Not a bad day in the office! Ryan Wood collects his first Supercars trophy on home soil with Chaz Mostert taking the win for Race 9.
Both cars rolled out of the truck strong, with Woody topping the final practice session and Chaz in the top five for both sessions.
With the introduction of the new SuperSprint format this year, it would be a busy day with two back-to-back qualifying sessions into two races!
Race 8
Ryan: 3rd
Chaz: 13th
It was a quiet opening few laps in Race 8 until chaos struck for Chaz, being spun from P7 and dropping to P21, not much he could have done being hit from behind, Chaz was a passenger for that one.
The following lap a safety car was called, compressing the field with Chaz coming out of the lane P19 and Ryan P6 with Randle pipping him at the pit exit control line, not an issue for Ryan who took that position back at the first corner once the lights went green.
The fastest car on the track, Ryan was hunting down the rear bumper of Anton DePasquale for the final spot on the podium, with three laps to go he plunged the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 down the inside to secure P3. Collecting his first trophy on home soil, what a special moment in front of his home crowd.
Chaz worked his way forward crossing the line P15 but with some time penalties handed out to other drivers in the field he finished up P13, not a bad recovery.
Race 9
Chaz: 1st
Ryan: 9th
Hungry from the race before, Chaz was ready for redemption, blitzing everyone off the line, taking the lead into the opening corner, building a strong gap between himself and everyone behind, the fastest car out there.
Stuck in a battling pack and struggling with tyre life, Ryan came in early for four tyres taking an undercut strategy, coming out in clean air which came to his advantage.
At the halfway mark, with stronger tyre life Brodie took the pass for the lead from Chaz, encouraging him to come into the pits in convoy with Brodie.
Keeping the fans entertained, Chaz and Brodie were making changes for the lead doing some rally cross along the way, with Chaz coming out on top after Brodie degraded his tyres in the dirt.
In the second half of the stint Ryan was sitting in P9, carefully looking after his tyres but struggled towards the end keeping the car from getting away from him, managing to keep Kai Allen away from him and maintaining P9.
Seven seconds ahead, the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 crossed the line first, winning his first race of the 2025 season!
What an incredible day for the Walkinshaw Andretti United team, a massive thank you goes out to our partners, without each and every one of you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we love – go racing!
Another day tomorrow, let’s collect some more trophies to take back to the workshop!
Ryan Wood
“What an awesome day! So cool to collect my first Supercars trophy and on home soil in front of my family is really special!
“We have had strong pace all weekend, the crew have done an incredible job putting the package together across both cars, great to see Chazzie get the win this afternoon.
“We go again tomorrow, it’ll be a longer race so there will be more strategy at play, first up is qualifying, definitely want to be starting up the front for the final one here in New Zealand.”
Chaz Mostert
“First dub in New Zealand and for 2025! It’s awesome to have my family here to celebrate with.
“I was pretty surprised starting on the front row for this afternoons race on the SuperSoft tyre, the win takes away a bit of the disappointment from the spin in the first race today.
“Not a bad day in the office for the Walkinshaw Andretti United team, awesome for Woody to collect his first trophy, today has been a great reward for the whole team!”
