Well, that was a slog! 500km of chaos, in a safety car riddled race, Ryan Wood and Fabian Coulthard cross the line P15 and a great recovery drive from Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth up to P7.

Saturday’s qualifying session had a spanner thrown in the works when it started hailing three minutes before the session started, with strong wet cars, Chaz qualified P2 and Ryan P4 securing tickets to the top 10 shootout.

The shootout didn’t go our way with Car 25 struggling to get tyres up to temp starting P6. Woody left nothing out there on his lap, setting purple sectors but ran wide showing great car control to keep it off the walls.

The race was going to be a tough one, as the lights went out both cars had great starts with Car 2 and Car 25 moving forward.

The first safety car of the race was called at lap 24 forcing both cars to pit, an unsafe release for Car 2 which saw him receive a 5 second penalty which had to be served outside of safety car conditions which was served late in the race.

Fabian jumped in the car, had his eyes forward and elbows out making his way forward, handing the car back to Woody in a strong position.

After an early spin in Lee’s stint, he regained his focus and pulled the car back strong after some good speed late in his stint.

On an alternate strategy, Chaz had a sprint to the end with 10 laps fresher tyres until a safety car came out with 20 laps to go, with cars ahead pitting, Chaz moved up to P7.

Woody was fighting in the 10 all afternoon, unfortunately late in the race a safety car was called, a wheel issue in the stop meant Ryan had to come back into the lane, putting him to the rear of the field.

Not how we wanted the weekend to end, we will head back to the workshop and debrief, eyes are now forward to the 1000, the biggest race of the year.

Ryan Wood

“First enduro under the belt, and there was a heap to take from it. The end result doesn’t reflect the weekend we had to be honest, so there was still a heap of positives to take from it.

“Fabs did a great job all weekend, speed was there, made it into the shootout, got through the race, now I just can’t wait until Bathurst.

Fabian Coulthard

“Tricky end to what was a really solid weekend to be honest. Woody did a great job this weekend, and it was great to be back doing some laps in race trim.

“Car was really good in the race, so it gives us plenty to work with before the big one in a few weeks.”

Chaz Mostert

“We will take P7 after today. Not much fell our way today, so to be there at the end of it, it could have been a lot worse.

“It was one of those weekends, between the weather and a few other challenges it had it all really. We’ve got plenty to look through before we get to Bathurst in a few weeks time, I can’t wait to be honest.

Lee Holdsworth

“I made a mistake today, so I feel really bad for Chaz and the team. Everyone did a great job today to get us back into the position we did, just wish it didn’t have to be that hard.

“Onto Bathurst now, we will bounce back.”
