It’s been a while but it’s great to be back! Did you miss us?
After a couple months break, engines are ready to roar for the 2025 Supercars Championship season opener under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The crew have been working hard during the off season getting the cars ready for a big shakeup this year, the points are reset back to zero, we are hungry, lets get after it!
Format
The format for Sydney will look a bit different this year, the three day format is back but with a twist, we will be racing each day starting Friday night.
Friday will see the first and only practice session of the weekend in the afternoon followed by a two-part qualifying session, with part 1 determining the grid position for 11 – 25 for Race 1 and part two giving the top 10 drivers eight minutes to put their fastest lap together. Race 1 will kick off under lights at 7.50pm AEDT.
Saturday and Sunday follow a similar format to each other with a three part qualifying session, part 1 determines the grid positions for 19 – 24, the top 18 battle it out over eight minutes to see who can score themselves into the top 10 shootout for part 3. Saturday’s race will see the lights go out at 7.30pm and Sunday’s at 4.05pm AEDT.
The Track
Sydney Motorsport Park is a big fast and flowing track, at 3.9km long and a top speed of 265km/h.
With more than ¾ of the lap spent turning, it’s important that the car balance is right and that is carries good mid-corner speed, otherwise the drivers will be in for a tough race.
The track offers plenty of passing opportunities, keep an eye out for the big run into turn one and the action area of turn five and six, this track rewards the committed and brave.
Tyres
We get to test out the new Dunlop Soft tyre this weekend. Will it go quicker, will there be less tyre degradation? We will find out on Friday nights race!
Pitstops
There is no refueling this weekend, all three races require one compulsory pitstop and at least two tyres.
WAU Foundation Academy
After a successful 2024 Toyota GR Cup campaign, Matt Hillyer has graduated to the Super2 series alongside returning Campbell Logan, their season kicks off this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Keep an eye out on our socials for their livery reveals on Thursday and also when you can catch them out on track.
