Chaz Mostert has continued his rich vein of form, finishing second in Race 9 of the Championship at The Bend.

The day was as tricky as weather gets, starting with two practice sessions that had a mixture of wet and dry running, a theme which continued for the rest of the day.

Following a wet weather three-part qualifying session, Chaz put the Mobil 1 Appliances Online No. 25 on the front row of the grid, with Bryce Fullwood in 16th, and Kurt Kostecki 17th.

The rain continued until the start of Race 9, with most of the field setting off on wets.

Chaz got the jump off the line, but slipped wide half-way through the first lap, while Bryce and Kurt were locked in an intense midfield battle, where there wasn’t much room given between the train of cars.

As a dry line appeared seven laps in to the race, most of the field came into the lane to make the switch to slicks.

It left Chaz in second on corrected order, with Andre Heimgartner in front. Despite the later having a five-second penalty, Chaz couldn’t quite get close enough to snatch the victory.

Bryce showed some fantastic speed in the dry, moving up to 13th on the road at the flag, but a five-second penalty for a pit infringement dropped him down to 17th.

Despite it being Kurt’s first race of the season, he showed no signs of rust, locked in a hard-fought battle pack, before eventually finishing in 19th.

Tomorrow we return for two more 24-lap races to round out the weekend.

Chaz Mostert

“It was awesome to have the Mobil 1 Appliances Online rocket back on the podium today, great to be out there and in the mix again.

“We probably could have done some things a little differently in terms of tyre strategy and tyre conservation, but Andre was too quick in front today.

“Great to be back on the podium, but it’s nice to have some things to work on as well, shows we’ve still got more to give this weekend.

“Thanks to everyone out there for their support, we will be having another crack tomorrow!”

Bryce Fullwood

“Really tricky day weather wise, that kept us on our toes.

“We struggled with car balance in the wet during the race today, but it felt a lot better once we made the switch to slicks.

“We will put our heads together tonight to be prepared for whatever tomorrow brings.”

Kurt Kostecki

“It was so good to be back in a race car today, even though it was a really tricky day weather wise.

“We had some good battles out there in the race, and there was a lot of valuable knowledge we can take from the running today, so hopefully we can get a couple of better results tomorrow.

“Thanks to the team for all their hard work so far, looking forward to Sunday.”
