What a way to start the day, in tricky conditions Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood made the Top 10 Shootout, Ryan’s first shootout and in his home country!

The weather was the winner of the Top 10 Shootout, the rain continued to get heavier throughout the session making the track slower and slower with Ryan securing P5 and Chaz P7.

As the lights went out for a very wet Race 7, Chaz lept off the line making his way up to 3rd avoiding the opening lap chaos with cars spinning left and right.

After the restart, an early safety car meant the risk of a potential double stack, but the guys in the lane got the job done without losing a second.

After battling for the lead for over half the race, the right rear tyre of the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Car 25 came loose, forcing an additional stop.

In the second half of the race Ryan was in the hunt for the final spot on the podium, hanging it all on the line, but couldn’t close those last few car lengths.

Whilst there wasn’t a trophy, to be P4 in the third full time round, at home, in the wet is a hell of an achievement.

It was a case of what could have been, but we know there is good race pace, heads will be down tonight ready for another 200km tomorrow.

Ryan Wood

“Cool to make my first shootout today and it was really special to do it at home, that was fun!

“Fourth for the team today was awesome but if I’m honest I’m pretty guttered to miss that podium but it makes me even hungrier for tomorrow.

“This crew doesn’t muck around in the wet or dry, another 200kms tomorrow, I’ll grow some kahunas and give it a crack!”

Chaz Mostert

“Bit of a kick in the guts that one, we had a really good car today but it didn’t fall our way.

“We’ll be back tomorrow, congrats to Woody and the car 2 crew, was some to see them up there fighting.”
