Chaz Mostert and Nick Percat round out the weekend at The Bend with both drivers in the top 10 for Race 22 of the 2023 Supercars Championship.

The morning started off with two back-to-back qualifying sessions for Race 21 and 22.

Two top 10 qualifying positions for Nick Percat in the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2, including a second row start for Race 22, setting him up in a strong fighting position for both races.

A strong first qualifying session for Chaz Mostert saw him secure P6 in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 for Race 21, but a moment in the second session meant Chaz qualified 17th for the final race of the weekend.

Race 21

Chaz: 3rd
Nick: 12th

It was a great start from both cars with Nick up two positions and Chaz launching off the line up to fifth.

Nick ran with the undercut strategy, coming in for an early pitstop but a sticky wheel nut cost four seconds in the pitstop, putting him down the field.

Chaz ran the longer first stint strategy, coming out of the pit with the freshest tyres with eight laps to go, weaving his way through the field.

It was all on in the late stages, Nick passing Will Brown for P12 whilst Chaz battled with David Reynolds for the final spot on the podium, getting the job done on the first corner of the last lap.

As the afternoon’s racing drew to a close, the lights went out for the final race of Round 8 of the 2023 Supercars Championship. Both drivers blitzed it off the line, with Nick taking the outside line making his way up to P2 by the first corner.

The Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 and Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 went for an early stop strategy, coming out in fresh air.

Both cars settled into a strong rhythm, Nick just missing out on a podium and Chaz with a great recovery making his way up to P9.

Overall, a good haul of points this weekend, next up is enduro season with Lee Holdsworth and Fabian Coulthard joining the driver line up, where cars will be hitting the track Friday 15th September for the Sandown 500.

Chaz Mostert

“It’s awesome to come away with two trophies this weekend, the team have been working hard all year so it’s great to reward them!

“The push and gain for the year is working for us, we still have a bit of homework to try and maximise our qualifying car.

“We are now off to the enduros, my favourite time of the year, I’m looking forward to having my mate Lee back with me.”

Nick Percat

“It’s been a pretty good weekend for the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 this weekend, finishing up the round with a 4th place finish.

“Really good to be at the front of the grid, we have found some qualifying speed but we still need a little bit more in the race trim.

“It’s great to get a bit of momentum heading into the enduro season, really keen to have Fabian by my side for the next few races.”
