How good was that! Chaz Mostert has continued on his strong form to take home a win on Saturday under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The cars rolled out of the truck strong this weekend with Ryan Wood topping Practice 1 with Chaz Mostert close behind in P3.
Converting Friday’s night pace into qualifying, Chaz secured himself a ticket into the top 10 shootout.
Struggling for one lap pace, Ryan narrowly missed out on the shootout by 0.2 seconds lining up P14 for the race.
Chaz was in Waters’ rear mirrors for the opening laps, rubbing panels until overtaking for P2 11 laps in.
Both cars opted for a two-stop strategy, similar to the rest of the field with only three drivers taking a one stop.
The Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 was one of the first to come into the pits taking a smaller fuel load which brought him out into the top 10 battling with Feeney.
Chaz followed suit a couple laps later following the leader into the pits, also taking a smaller fuel load, overtaking the leader during the quick stop.
With clean air ahead, the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 2 was a rocket, needing to pull a strong gap on the car behind to compensate for the larger fuel load at the final stop.
In the final stint, Ryan had strong race pace but ultimately after battling in packs ran out of tyre, crossing the line P13.
It was a battle between Chaz and Payne in the final stint to get the top step, Payne on a one stop strategy with rodded tyres, Chaz quickly caught up and swiftly took the lead with four laps to go.
What a way to honour 50 years of Mobil 1 globally, a black and gold livery, taking home a gold trophy, you couldn’t script it.
A massive thank you to all of our partners, without your support we wouldn’t be able to go out there and do what we love.
Chaz Mostert
“Any day you get a trophy is a good day, the day you get to be on the top step is an awesome one!
“The Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 race car was a rocket, the crew smashed it in the pit stops, it was a total team effort today!
“The hard work doesn’t stop now, there still are a couple things we need to fix with the car so we can roll out strong together, let’s get after it!”
Ryan Wood
“Not the day we had hope for after yesterday, we didn’t have the quali speed we wanted today, which set the day up from there to be honest, but still, we got out of it with a straight car, plenty to look at from our side, but also plenty to look at from the other side as well, which is really positive.
“Huge congrats to the team and Chaz for today, its impressive to witness, and I’m stoked for everyone here.
“Looking forward to a better Sunday!”
