We are off to the Apple Isle for Round 4 of the 2025 Supercars Championship, a track the team have had plenty of success at in the past.

Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood are refreshed and ready to get behind the wheel for three action packed days at Symmons Plains.

Our Super 2 drivers Campbell Logan and Matt Hillyer also hit the track this weekend for Round 2 of their series, make sure you keep an eye out for them and cheer them as well.

Format

Friday kicks off our on track action this weekend with two 30-minute practice sessions.

Saturday sees the morning start with qualifying for Race 11 and 12 in a 2-part qualifying with Part 1 setting the grid for P11 to P24, the 10 fastest cars will get another opportunity to challenge for pole position in Part 2. There will be two 120km races on Saturday afternoon with Race 11’s lights going out at 12.05pm AEST and Race 12 at 3.55pm.

Sunday see’s a different a format with a three-part qualifying; Part 1 setting the grid for P18 -24, Part 2 for P11-17 followed by a top 10 shootout just before midday at 11.55am. To round out the weekend all 24 cars will line up on the grid for the final race of 200kms around Symmons Plains at 2.45pm AEST.

The Track

Symmons Plains is a unique track. It’s only 2.41kms long, so the lap times are regularly in the low 50 second barrier. The field spread is small as well, with most cars, if not all, within a second of each other in qualifying.

The turn-four hairpin is one of the most well-known corners in Australian motorsport. It requires near-on full lock to get around and is the slowest corner we go to all season.

The top of the track slopes down to the apex, so it’s a great passing opportunity, but also the chance to hang around the outside and drag the inside car down the back straight.

Tyres

We will be running both the Dunlop Soft and Super-Soft this weekend. For Race 11 and 13 we will be on the Dunlop Super-Soft and Race 12 we will on the Dunlop Soft. This will be the first time we will have run the new Dunlop soft tyre in Tasmania.

Pitstops

For the two 120km races on Saturday there is a minimum one pitstop with a minimum of two tyres changed. On Sunday’s 200km race there is a minimum of two pit stops with the option to take two, three or four tyres depending on strategy.

Weather

We are being treated to warm weather for Tasmania standards this weekend with temperatures reaching the high teens and no rain on the forecast.

How to watch

Every session, every lap will be live on Foxtel and Kayo throughout the weekend.

Foundation Academy

Our Super 2 drivers Campbell Logan and Matt Hillyer hit the track for Round 2 at Campbell’s home track. It’ll be a weekend to watch with a top five shootout being introduced this weekend for Sunday’s race. Make sure you tune in and support our up in coming drivers this weekend.

Ryan Wood

“It’s the first time we will be on the new Soft tyre at Symmons Plains, it’ll be foot to floor the entire race, that’ll be one to watch!

“The new sprint formats keep us drivers super busy all weekend so it’s important for us to make sure we are physically and mentally prepped before we step foot in Tassie.

“It’s been a pretty tight turnaround for the team getting these cars prepped since the containers arrived back from New Zealand late last week, the crew have done an awesome job!”

Chaz Mostert

“We are back on the SuperSoft for two races this weekend, a tyre we struggled on last year but we have put a big focus on it this year and the dividends have really paid off.

“With the new sprint format we have cut down on practice times, it really means we need to roll out with a strong package to be in the mix.

“Qualifying around here is always pretty tight, one small mistake and you’re at the back of the field, it’s all about minimising mistakes and maximising opportunities.”
