We are still in the championship hunt with Chaz Mostert after a strong second place finish, joined on the podium with Ryan Wood in third position.

It was a strong start to the morning with Ryan scoring provisional pole in qualifying, which saw him go out last in the Top 10 shootout. Unfortunately, on the other side of the garage, an electrical issue on Car 25 meant Chaz was limited to a single qualifying run, narrowly missing the shootout and lining up P12 for the race.

Ryan gave it his all in the shootout to secure a P3 start which put him right in the mix for the 250km race ahead.

We were on the edge of our seats as the lights went out, Ryan launched off the line, moving into P2 on the opening lap and taking the race lead by lap five. Determined to capitalise, he pushed hard and built a four second margin over the field in the opening stint.

Meanwhile, Chaz was charging through the pack, climbing five positions in the first 10 laps. Starting further down the field than planned, the team opted for an early stop to execute an undercut, to give him clean air to attack. Making the most of the opportunity, Chaz set fastest lap after fastest lap consecutively and cycled up to P4 in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25.

Chaz pushed hard throughout the middle stint, sustaining front-end damage that caused the splitter to drag on the ground. The crew temporarily fixed the damage in his second stop to keep him in the fight.

Ryan retained the lead into the final round of stops, but after rejoining, was forced wide by Feeney. He fought hard until the end to minimise the points difference between Chaz and Feeney in the championship standings.

The final laps had the entire garage on edge. A fuel issue on Car 2 forced Ryan into maximum fuel-save mode which saw Chaz move into second. Ryan manage the situation well, holding on for a third place finish, securing back to back double podiums this weekend.

A solid weekend of results sees us leapfrog Tickford in the Team Championship, moving up to third position. The job isn’t done yet; it’s a big day tomorrow and we’re ready to make our mark.

Ryan Wood

“We’ve been on a good momentum this weekend, the cars are really fast, I can’t thank the crew enough for all their hard work leading into this event.

“It’s great to have back to back podiums alongside Chazzie, there were a few good battles out there today.

“There’s still one more race tomorrow, we will definitely not be leaving anything on the table for that one, bring it on.”

Chaz Mostert

“It’s amazing how much these cars can handle, I pretty much hit everything out there except the pace car and my teammate, at least the team can be happy about that.

“I had a lot of fun today, I didn’t expect to be on the podium after where we started but there were a lot chess moves out there and the crew gave me an awesome car.

“It’s good to go into the final day with a shot at the championship. This format is keeping the pressure on all of us and the racing has been so much fun.”
