We are heading West to Perth for Round 5 of the 2025 Supercars Championship, a track the Team have had great success at in the past, with Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood locking out the front row on Saturday in 2024.
It’s been a couple of weeks since Tasmania, Ryan has managed to sneak in a test day which went well so he is ready to come out swinging in Perth, a track he is very fond of.
Bring on a great weekend of racing!
The Track
Wanneroo Raceway is a tight and tricky racetrack, at just 2.4kms per lap. The car must be set-up to flow through the corners of the first half of the lap, but you also need a strong braking package to pull the car up into the last corner.
Previously, this track has been the highest degradation circuit on the calendar before it was resurfaced in 2019 which saw some improvements to degradation. It is critical to focus on tyre life towards the end of the race as this track is brutal on tyres.
Format
Friday starts off with two half-hour practice sessions.
Saturday sees Format 2 qualifying for Race 14 and 15 which will have a 10-minute part 1 that will set the grid for positions 11 – 25, the 10 fastest cars will go back out for another 10-minute session to set their position on the grid. We will see the first of two 120km races on Saturday at 12.55pm local time with lights going out for the second race at 4.10pm local time.
The top 10 shootout is back on Sunday for Race 16 after qualifying in the morning to set the grid for positions 11-25. We will then see a longer 200km race to round out the weekend in Perth which kicks off at 3.15pm.
Tyres
We will be running two tyre compounds this weekend, the Dunlop Soft tyre for Race 14 and Race 16 and the Dunlop Super-Soft tyre for Race 15.
Pitstops
There is one compulsory pitstop for Saturday’s races with a minimum of two tyres. For Sunday’s 200km race there is two compulsory pitstops with either two, three or all four tyres being taken, it all depends on strategy.
Weather
It looks like we will just miss the wet weather as the rain eases up on Thursday with some scattered cloud on Friday and Saturday and clear skies on Sunday.
How to Watch
This weekend will be covered on Fox Sports and Kayo across the entire weekend.
Full broadcast times can be found here.
Ryan Wood
“Last year was pretty special in Perth, as a driver and a team we have grown a lot since then so I’m excited to see where we stack up this weekend.
“A Top 10 shootout around Wanneroo will be cool, it’s a short track so one small mistake and you’ll be out of the running for pole, it’ll make it a pretty exciting session.
“It’s a shame the weather is drying up over in Perth, it's been wet there for the last few weeks so that would have thrown a spanner in the works with some wet racing."
Chaz Mostert
“Perth was a weekend to remember last year, we definitely want to repeat the great results again this year!
“Wanneroo is one of my favourite race tracks, there’s only seven corners and I can count that high so that’s pretty handy.
“The new SuperSprint format this year always makes the second qualifying session on Saturday pretty interesting, it’s the first time we run that specific tyre compound at that track so you never know where you’ll come out in that session.”
