A podium for Chaz Mostert in the season opener at Sydney Motorsport Park after putting on a dominant display, whilst Ryan Wood crosses the line P11 after some impressive battles.

It’s been a pretty busy start to the week with testing on Wednesday straight into race week, the morning kicked off with the first and only practice session of the weekend.

Both the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 and the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 had strong pace in qualifying in Part 1 but didn’t maximise their green laps in Part 2, setting the grid at P7 for Ryan and P8 for Chaz.

With 100kms on the clock for Race 1, it would be a fast sprint to the end, as the lights went out, Chaz had his eyes forward and stayed out of trouble, moving his way up to P5.

Woody had an entertaining battling with Will Brown in the opening laps and held his own, coming out in front.

Both cars ran the longer first stint strategy with Chaz coming in for four tyres and Ryan two just after the halfway point of the race.

Having taken four tyres compared to two that the cars in front took, Chaz rapidly made his way forward up to P3 with 10 laps to go.

Ryan came out of the pits in a battling pack, but struggling for balance late in the race he crossed the line P11.

With two laps to go, Chaz was hungry to take one more step up on the podium, diving the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 down the inside securing P2 with two laps to go.

Not a bad start to the 2025 Supercars Championship with a trophy for Chaz and Ryan knocking on the Top 10. A bit of work to do overnight, but we will be back again tomorrow to do it all again.

Ryan Wood

Qualifying was really good today, it was nice to be in the top 10, disappointed I didn’t quite piece it together in Part 2 but we have another shot tomorrow.

I had some pretty fun battles out there with Will, the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 didn’t quite have the race pace towards the end of each stint so it was hard to fight at the end there.

We go again tomorrow, we have a bit of work to do overnight, we know we have the pace to be starting further up the field tomorrow, just got to piece it all together, looking forward to it.

Chaz Mostert

Didn’t expect a podium from P8 that’s for sure, stoked to reward the crew with a podium, it’s been a busy off-season for them rebuilding the new Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25.

Everyone was definitely in the sprint race mindset so it was pretty tough out there, had some pretty fun battles, it’s good to be back!

We didn’t quite get it right with qualifying today so we started further back than we wanted to today, we will put our heads together and hope Scaff comes up with some magic potion overnight.
