Race 27 of the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship has been abandoned due to unsafe track conditions, the result of a huge storm and torrential rain.

It meant that a potential result for both cars following a strong qualifying and positive start to the race went begging, as no points were awarded for the day.

This morning started on a fantastic note, with both cars qualifying for the top-10 shootout.

On their one flying lap, with the track to themselves, Scott set the fifth fastest time, and JC the sixth.

Luffy and Jack started the race, and did a great job. They were running fourth and fifth before Steven Richards cannoned into the side of Car 2, dropping it back down to 12th.

As the heavens opened up, both cars dived for the lane. They popped out behind a safety car in second and seventh.

This is when it turned to chaos. We stopped again four laps later, still under safety car, as co-drivers had completed their minimum laps, but not long after the first red flag was called.

The rain slowly eased up 45-minutes later, as the field went out again behind the safety car, but not long after, the rain became even worse, and the race was called off.

It’s disappointing because we were in a strong position and had good car speed all day, but driver safety is paramount, and the right call was made.

Now, we head straight back to Melbourne to prepare the cars to fly to New Zealand next weekend.

A big thanks to Warren Luff and Jack Perkins for their efforts this endurance season, they were outstanding.

A podium yesterday, and both cars in the shootout today were the standouts of the weekend. Progress continues to be made. Bring on NZ.

MATHEW NILSSON – CO-TEAM PRINCIPAL

“Overall, it was another really positive weekend for the team. Progress continues to be made, we saw that with the podium yesterday and the speed today.

“It’s a real shame about the weather because we were looking strong today. The right call was made though, there was just too much standing water on the track.

“Thanks to Luffy and Jack for all their hard work not only these last three meetings but all year. They’ve done a fantastic job.

“Next stop, New Zealand.”
