P5 for Chaz and P20 for Woody only tells some of the story in what was a big day up the top end in Darwin! Chaz’s MVP drive stole the show.

The boys sure earned their cheeseburgers with that one, 17 cheeseburgers for Chaz and 4 cheeseburgers for Ryan coming right up – thanks to how many cars they both passed in the race.

It wasn’t the start to the weekend we were after with both cars rolling out of the blocks behind the eight ball in Practice 1 and Qualifying, with Chaz starting P22 and Ryan P24 for Race 11.

A mega start from Chaz in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 moved him up from 22nd up to 17th by the second corner with Ryan in the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 up three spots off the line.

Both cars were moving forward in the opening stint but Car 2 suffered a flat spot which meant a change in strategy forcing Ryan to pit first in the field.

The pit crew were on form, smashing both pit stops putting the cars in strong positions to move forward, with both cars taking four tyres.

Ryan kept clean in the final stint, travelling pretty well and looking for a top 15 finish until contact with Hill, who later received a 5 second penalty.

Chaz was the one to watch though, and everyone was in the firing line.

Car after car, he kept moving forward, pushing inside the top 10 with 15 to go.

Despite a late push he fell just short of getting pole-sitter Golding for fourth on the last lap, but it was a drive for the ages, up 17 spots and provided plenty of entertainment.

The work isn’t done yet, we start again tomorrow with qualifying, we will put our heads together overnight to make sure we start further up the field – getting the new supersoft tyre to be a little happier with our cars.

Chaz Mostert

“That was a big redemption drive, it was awesome to reward the guys and girls at WAU, a massive credit to the pit crew, that stop was amazing.

“We made our life hard yesterday but no one dropped their head which was really cool to see, everyone backed each other and we knew we could still turn it into a positive.

“The hard work doesn’t stop here, we’ve got to put our heads together tonight to work on our quali car.”

Ryan Wood

“That was a tough one today, we rolled out this weekend behind the mark which made qualifying really challenging.

“We had a really strong race car, unfortunately I made a few mistakes during the race, and we had some contact late in the race which hurt our chances of a better finish but we go again tomorrow.

“The team have done an awesome job with the race car, a massive congrats to Chaz, that was a mega drive.”
