Chaz: 4th
Nick: 14th
Jayden: 17th
Race 13 of 2022 has been run and won, with Chaz headlining the show with a fourth-place finish.
After two quickfire practice sessions in the fresh country Victorian air to start the weekend, we headed straight into qualifying.
Chaz put the No. 25 Mobil 1 Optus Racing in third after the three-stage qualifying, Jayden did a great job to make it through to stage two, starting in 19th, but a tricky morning overall for Nick culminated in the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 starting from 22nd.
Once the race started, Nick was the first car to stop looking for clear air which turned out to be a good decision. He made up eight spots via the undercut, and well managed tyre life, to come home in 14th.
Chaz was just out of reach of the top two for most of the race, close but not close enough, before being unable to hold off a fast-finishing David Reynolds on fresher tyres in the dying stages, to finish in fourth. He’s in the hunt, we just need a little more speed overnight.
As for Jayden, he did an incredible job in his first solo start and looked right at home in the field, coming home in 16th. After a confidence boosting Saturday, we are looking forward to seeing what he achieves tomorrow.
Sunday starts with two qualifying sessions from 9:40am, before two further 36-lap races to finish the weekend.
Chaz Mostert
“Nice to bounce back and have a solid day today, thanks heaps to the entire team for the work they’ve put in to turn things around.
“We still need a little bit more speed in the race to mix it with those guys up the front, so we will put our heads together tonight and see what we can come up with.”
Nick Percat
“Was definitely a tricky start to the day, but everyone worked really hard to get as many points as possible, and the strategy call was a good one.
“Fingers crossed we can get a good qualifying under our belts tomorrow morning and build on the day from there.”
Jayden Ojeda
“Really happy with today, it was awesome to get into part two of quali and have a solid 36-laps as well, so a huge thanks to the team for today.
“Learnt a lot today, so really excited to get back out there tomorrow and see what we can do.”
