It’s back under lights for Round 7 of the 2024 Supercars Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.

It’s a big weekend for the team as we celebrate 50 years of Mobil 1 with a special one off livery, at the very track where our partnership with Mobil 1 took their first race win with the team.

The Track

Sydney Motorsport Park is a big fast and flowing track, at 3.9km long and a top speed of 265km/h.

With more than ¾ of the lap spent turning, it’s important that the car balance is right and that is carries good mid-corner speed, otherwise the drivers will be in for a tough race.

The track offers plenty of passing opportunities, keep an eye out for the big run into turn one and the action area of turn five and six, this track rewards the committed and brave.

Format

We are back to a three-day format for this event, with cars hitting the track on Friday evening for a twilight Practice Session for an hour and a half.

Saturday kicks off with qualifying in the afternoon setting the grid for P11 – P25 with the Top 10 fastest times getting a lap to themselves in the Top 10 Shootout later in the afternoon. After the sun has set, the lights will be turned on for Race 15 which gets underway at 7.35pm AEST, for 51 laps around Eastern Creek.

Sunday follows a similar format with qualifying, a Top 10 Shootout into the 200km Race 16, where lights will go out at 4.05pm AEST, to close out the weekend.

Tyres

We are on the Dunlop Soft tyre all weekend.

Pitstops

It’s a refueling weekend, with both races requiring a minimum of one compulsory pitstop and two tyres.

Weather

The weather is looking clear, there is no rain on the forecast, with temperatures in the teens across the weekend.

Ryan Wood

“Really excited for everyone to see the Mobil 1 50-year liveries out on track, they look awesome in person.

“This’ll be my first-time racing under lights in Gen3, it’ll be another challenge, and another first under my belt but I’m ready to get after it.

“We showed some strong race pace in Townsville, my focus this weekend is to really nail that one lap pace, we really want to be in the shootouts which will make our evenings a lot easier."

Chaz Mostert

“Back to back Sydney rounds with special liveries, how good! Last time we had Mobil 1 celebratory livery we had a great weekend so let’s hope this livery provides the same luck as last year.

“We really need to be rolling out of the truck strong this weekend, there is only one practice session so it’s important we put our best foot forward early.

“Racing under lights is so much fun, it’s really weird but it feels like we are going two times the speed when it’s dark compared to when we’re racing during the day, it's always good racing as well, so lets hope we keep that momentum from Townsville rolling.”
