Well, that was some weekend…

After what can only be described as a disastrous Saturday, where both cars were heavily damaged, the positive out of today was that we finished the way we started, with a straight car.

Unfortunately for James Courtney and the car #22, their weekend finished on Saturday with too much damage to the drivers side intrusions to fix at the track.

That meant all hands on deck overnight to help get the car #2 up and running after extensive damage to all four corners of the car.

It was a 5am finish for the boys, but they got it done, and got Scott Pye back on the grid for Sunday’s events.

After a wet and wild qualifying, Scott started the race out of P15.

Following a clean start, Scott jumped in the pits early to switch from the wet tyre he started on, to the slicks as a dry line appeared.

The middle part of the shortened 76 lap race, due to time constraints, was relatively uneventful.

The second round of stops is where Scott made his move. A longer fuel load at the start of the race meant a shorter stop, and a net gain of three spots up to P12.

From there, he boxed his way up and down the order, before crossing the line in P12 to finish the weekend.

The wet weather meant the true speed of the car wasn’t showcased as well as hoped, but there was a bit to take from today into Phillip Island next round.

“The race started wet and fined up pretty quickly actually. In hindsight, we would have loved to take a risk and start on slicks at the start, because it reaped rewards in the end.

The car was pretty good. We moved forward in the race, ending up P12, but full credit has to go to the boys. We wouldn’t have been there today if it wasn’t for everyone chipping in and getting back out there.

Unfortunately for the car #22 guys there weekend was done yesterday, but they all chipped in and made sure my car was finished.

“To come away with 12th today wasn’t ideal, we would have loved some more car speed to get inside the top 10, but to just be out there scoring points was a good thing.

“Moving forward, we’ve got some things we would have liked to try in the car during the race that we couldn’t so we’ve got some good feedback going into Phillip Island.

“Credit to the boys, tough day, but at least the car is straight at the end of today, ready for Phillip Island.
