Not the start to the weekend that we were hoping for here at The Australian Grand Prix for Ryan Wood and Chaz Mostert, having strong race cars but struggling with qualifying pace.

The weekend started off on Thursday with qualifying for the first two races, both cars ultimately lacking qualifying pace starting mid pack in the field for Race 4 and 5.

As we have seen in the past, it is some of the toughest racing at the Grand Prix with no pit stops to remove any strategy from the races, the only way to move forward is by making bold passes.

Race 4

Ryan Wood: P5
Chaz Mostert: P10

If there was one word to describe Race 4 it would be chaotic! Chaz and Woody were the ultimate team mates on Thursday, working their way up to P7 and P8 from P13 and P17 on the grid.

With cars bumping and rubbing for the entire 19 lap race, there was chaos everywhere, with Chaz ultimately gettingcaught in the chaos, being run wide and dropping down to P15.

Ryan continued to maximise, placing his car down the inside passing cars every lap, sitting P5 with three laps to go, he was on the rear bumper of Brodie Kosteki in P4 but ran out of laps to pass him. Nonetheless, a great result for Ryan, up 12 positions from where he started.

Chaz also had the pace and managed to cross the line P10 after being in the thick of the battling packs for the remainder of the race.

Race 5

Chaz Mostert : P10
Ryan Wood: P22

Race 5 was an eventful one, without many laps due to multiple safety cars turning the race into time certain.

Chaz kept it clean all race working his way up from 15th to 10th, running out of laps to move forward.

Whilst Ryan made his way up to P7, he was handed a drive through penalty after contact with Le Brocq, putting him to the rear of the field, crossing the line P22. With one of the longest pit lanes on the calendar, Ryan was nearly a lap behind, but he didn’t give up, setting the fastest lap of the race.

We are halfway through the weekend, there is still plenty to play for, we’ve got qualifying for Race 6 and 7 tomorrow morning and Race 6 in the evening.

The race pace is there, we are just starting too far back to show the rewards for it, the crew will put their heads together overnight to tune up the qualifying cars.

Ryan Wood

“I had a blast during the race yesterday, moving up from P17 to P5 was awesome, the car was so much fun to drive and felt great to reward the crew with a good result.

“Not how we wanted today to go, we worked our way up to P7 before coping a pit lane penalty which ultimately ended our race.

“We are only halfway through the weekend, we will put our heads together over night to tune up these quali cars and come out swinging again tomorrow!”

Chaz Mostert

“It’s definitely been a difficult start to the weekend for us, two P10 finishes is not where we want to be, we’ve got a strong race car just need to work on quali pace.

“The crowd here has been awesome, the fans have really turned up this weekend, it’s great to have such entertaining races for the fans.

“There is still plenty to play for, we’ve got two more days on track, we aren’t giving up, we are still hungry, let’s get after it.”
