It’s the final round of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup for 2017, as we head north to the Gold Coast for 600 kilometres around the streets of Surfers Paradise.

After Scott Pye and Warren Luff’s second place at Bathurst just over a week ago, the team is itching to get back out on a racetrack, one that has been friendly to us in the past. You only have to look as far back as 2015 when JC and Jack stood on the top step of the podium.

The weekend holds two 300km races around the concrete canyon, one Saturday, and one Sunday.

The Gold Coast usually turns it on weather wise this time of year, but looking ahead to the forecast, we’re going to need the wets again.

South East Queensland has been on the receiving end of a downpour over the last week, a trend which looks set to continue all week, especially on Sunday.

Any major mistake around the streets of the Gold Coast usually results in a car hitting the concrete wall. Add in a wet track and it’s going to be a hold your breath type weekend… and that’s why we love it.

We are back on the super soft tyre for the event, as opposed to the 2016 hard tyre that was used at Bathurst.

It’s also the last time we will see Luffy and Jack behind the wheel this year. They have done an incredible job the last two events.

Who could forget Luffy’s opening stint against the main drivers where he climbed from 20th to as high as eighth… that will be talked about for a long time.

Being a street circuit, full commitment 100% of the time is required. You have to be aggressive into the chicane along the back straight, and the last corner provides a great opportunity to fire it down the inside; keep an eye out for a few moves to be made there over the weekend.

First practice session of the weekend takes place on Friday morning.

There will be a qualifying session for each race, as well as a Top 10 Shootout on Sunday.

“The way Bathurst finished for us was disappointing, I was shattered for the whole team but we still took some positives from it.

“We were in the hunt at the end, and the car speed was good, so we’ve got to bring that momentum into this weekend.

“This is a track that is obviously quite special to me, and I’d love nothing more than to grab another win around here.

“We made some more progress with this car at Bathurst, the guys have all been working really hard, so I’m feeling positive heading in.

“Getting that one lap pace is more important here than it was Bathurst, because they are 300km races compared to 1000km at Bathurst or even 500km at Sandown.

“The weather looks like it’ll spice things up so that will make it interesting.”

“The result at Bathurst was fantastic for myself, Luffy and the whole team, but everyone moved on to focusing on this weekend pretty quickly.

“It’s always really cool coming to the Gold Coast. The atmosphere is great, everyone gets behind the event, and the track pushes you to the limits.

“We need to keep working on our one-lap speed, but we’ve shown over the last two events in particular the race package is really competitive.

“Luffy has done a stellar job all year, so we will be having a crack that’s for sure.

“I can’t wait to get out there.”
