We’re back at the Australian Grand Prix, and this time we are playing for points.

This weekend marks the 22nd time Supercars have raced around Albert Park, but it’s the first time it will be a championship round.

After leaving Adelaide with the teams championship lead, Mobil 1™ Boost Mobile Racing has had their sights firmly set on another strong performance this weekend.

Four top-10 results in both races around the streets of Adelaide was a good start to the year, and filled the team with confidence, but it’s just as important to back it up with another solid weekend with a big haul of points.

The Albert Park Circuit is track we have liked in the past, with 19 wins from 68 races, which is a win rate of 28 per cent.

While the circuit hasn’t changed, this weekend presents another new challenge for the team. It will be the first race with the new ZB Commodore at a high-speed track.

The way the car behaves through the long-loaded corners over the back of the circuit will be critical to understand as quickly as possible, it defines the whole lap.

The format for this weekend is action packed. Four races, four qualifying sessions and two practice sessions across four days means it will be on from the moment the cars roll out on Thursday morning.

The two 25-lap races have a compulsory stop, but the two 13-lap races do not, which makes qualifying even more important.

Different to Adelaide, this weekend is on the super soft Dunlop compound, the softer of the two.

Cars will first hit the track at 12:50pm on Thursday, before one race Friday, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday leading in to the Formula 1 race that afternoon.

James Courtney

“It’s great to be back at the Grand Prix, and great that it means something this weekend.

“In the past, it was always a tricky one when no points were on offer, but now it gives us something to really focus on.

“Adelaide was a great weekend for the whole team. Now we must consolidate that with another strong showing.

“The track changes a huge amount over the weekend as the F1 guys lay rubber down, so staying ahead of that is really important.

“I’m looking forward to it, can’t wait to get out there.”

“It’s a really big thing for us to be racing for points this weekend, it’s a great opportunity and a really important weekend.

“The track itself is fast, flowing, and a lot of fun. It’ll be interesting to see how the new aero package reacts to that. We got a bit of a feel for it at Sydney Motorsport Park, but I think we’ve learnt a lot more since then.

“It’s a cool event to be involved with, and everyone loves having a look over the fence to see what the F1 guys are doing, so it should be good.

“Hopefully we can keep the positivity and momentum flowing, and continue the great start to the year.”
