Scott Pye has finished eighth, while James Courtney crossed the line 13th in race 8 of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania.

Pye made up seven spots over the 200kms, while Courtney had his hands full with a few issues over the 84 laps, dropping four-spots from his starting position.

Earlier in the day, both cars advanced directly through to stage 2 of qualifying thanks to being inside the top-10 in the practice four.

Once there, JC made it into the final 10, qualifying ninth, while Scott set the 15th quickest lap.

Light rain greeted the start of the race, which was a common theme throughout, but it was not even to even consider wets or changing strategy.

Like yesterday, JC was one of the first to stop on lap 16, while Scott went the complete opposite, the last car to take his first stop on 30.

In the middle stint, Pye found himself in clear air which helped his charge up the order, but JC had to manage a damaged front right tyre which was hurting the car on turn in.

Reacting to that, the team stopped him with 42 laps remaining, again the first take his second stop, which was going to hurt down the stretch.

Pye stopped with 35 to go, emerging out just behind JC, and continuing his ascension.

In the end, Pye progressed forward into eighth, while JC managed a car which copped a hit with 15-laps remaining, to bring it home in 13th.

Holistically, there were positives to take from both days, including a top-five finish yesterday and moving forward today, but also areas of focus to continue to address as the progression continues.

Now, we move straight into Phillip Island preparation before arriving there next Thursday for back-to-back rounds.

“There were some definite positives to continue to build from, as seen by the top-5 yesterday, the qualifying improvement of car 22, and Scott’s race pace today.

“Equally, the work doesn’t stop, as we continue the progression made in the three rounds this year, and continue to move forward.

“Over the next few days we’ll be flat out in the workshop understanding what worked this weekend, and what areas need addressing heading forward.

“Our team worked extremely hard this weekend, and we are collectively motivated in heading straight down to the Island, focussed on achieving greater momentum.

“We’re up for the fight.”
