We’re back in action this weekend, as we head north to Townsville for Round 8 of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Reid Park plays host to a pair of 200km races across the weekend, one Saturday, one Sunday.

After an up and down Darwin, we’re looking to replicate the positives more consistently this weekend.

The circuit itself is one of the most unique on the calendar. Half is a dedicated street circuit, while the other half winds through the parklands on purpose build roads, similar to the Albert Park circuit. That makes for one heck of a lap that requires full commitment.

It’s our first street race since Adelaide back in March, which we love. Concrete walls surround parts of the circuit, and mistakes are punished.

The mercury is expected to be in the mid 20’s all weekend, with the threat of rain each day.

Yesterday, we announced a livery tweak to James Courtney’s Car 22 for this weekend, with Carpentaria Fuels, a subsidiary of MEGA, seen on both sides of the car. Keep an eye out for that this weekend.

On-track actions kicks off at 10:55am Friday for the first of two practice sessions.

“Townsville is a great place to go racing. It’s going to be good to escape cold Melbourne and find some sun again!

“The track requires full commitment as a driver with the concrete walls surrounding you. Mistakes are very costly around there.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there and getting stuck into it. We’re all working extremely hard behind the scenes to turn these results around.”

James Courtney

“I’m excited to get back up to Townsville. It’s a great event, and one where we’ve had good success in the past.

“The track is really fun to drive, being half a street circuit but half parklands, so that hybrid element makes it really interesting, and always keeps us on our toes.

“Darwin was a bit of an up and down one, we need to make sure it’s more consistent across the weekend.

“It’s also great to have Carpentaria Fuels, a brand familiar with the local market, on the side of the car this weekend. I’m looking forward to it.”
