Crazy Sunday in Townsville

Race 18 was one of the most eventful, crazy races in recent memory, resulting in James Courtney finishing 13th, and Scott Pye 16th.

To summarise, a puncture on lap 2 while running fifth put JC on the back foot early.

As the compulsory pit window wasn’t open yet, his stop wouldn’t have counted to the two mandatory stops he had to make. With rain falling, the team rolled the dice on wets.

After having to stop once the window opened for slicks, it put him a lap down.

For Scott, a mechanical failure on his first stop, and a fuel issue on the second for which we didn’t recover from well enough, also unfortunately put him a lap down.

As the rain got heavier at the midpoint of the race, it bought us back closer to the field, but still chasing the lead lap.

JC was tagged by Heimgartner in the closing stages causing rear end damage but he was able to continue.

The race finished under safety car when a huge fire broke out in the BJR pit box, right next door to ours.

Our boys were first on the scene to put it out, and everyone walked away, which was the main thing. A potentially catastrophic situation was averted by the swift action taken.
