James Courtney has finished 11th, and Scott Pye 21st in Race 19 at Queensland Raceway.

Courtney capitalised on solid race pace and some late race drama in the field, keeping his nose clean to pick up seven spots from where he started.

Unfortunately for Pye, a wheel-nut issue at his stop ruined his afternoon, costing him a heap of time in pit lane.

Both cars started the three-part qualifying in part 1 this morning, with Scott setting the fourth quickest time, advancing him to stage two, while JC was eighth, having suffered from a front end vibration. It meant he would start the race 18th.

Scott gave it a crack but didn’t have the car to advance to the final 10, setting the 14th best time.

When the race started, both cars got away cleanly, following each other nose to tail for the first stint.

Scott was the first of the two to stop, but the left-rear wheel nut system just didn’t want to play nice.

After the pit-crew managed to get the nut off and the new wheel on, he re-joined in 23rd, and a long way behind the field.

JC’s stop a few laps later was clean, and he re-joined inside the top-15.

After some strong lap times, and the ability to fight with those on fresher tyres, he found himself in a five-car battle.

He picked off Todd Hazelwood and Anton de Pasquale after they made contact, and was the beneficiary of Tim Slade having an issue on the last lap, to move to 11th.

Clearly not the day we were after. Tomorrow, we’ve got a practice session, three-part knock-out qualifying session, and 200km race.
