Weather. Weather. Weather. The ultimate factor on Saturday at the Sandown 500.

In the end, the Mobil 1™ Appliances Online Car No. 22 of James Courtney and Jack Perkins will start tomorrow's Sandown 500 in 10th, while the Mobil 1 Winning Appliances Car No. 2 of Scott Pye and Warren Luff will start from 23rd.

Rain in the final race of the day, the race which set tomorrow’s grid, was the biggest factor of the day.

A downpour just before the start of Race 29, driven by the main drivers, meant a wet track. Half the field elected to start on wets, banking on that it wouldn’t dry out, the other half started on slicks and gambled on a dry line appearing. At the time, it was a genuine 50/50 call.

Despite no further rain, the track never dried out as much as it had previously in the weekend, meaning the wet weather tyre was the quicker of the two.

That meant JC was able to catapult up the order into 10th, while Scott Pye had to battle on slicks, coming home in 23rd.

The day started with a final practice session before qualifying. When it was time to bolt the new tyres on, once again, mother nature got involved.

Rain after the first flying laps meant no-one improved on their time until a last lap gasp, which resulted in Scott in 14th and JC 23rd.

That was where Luffy and Jack started their 20-lap, 60km race. Despite constant drizzle, they both moved forward, with Luffy finishing in 11th and Jack 18th.

That’s when the main-drivers jumped in for the final race of the day.

While we are not starting as high up as planned for tomorrow, it’s the second longest race in the year, with plenty of time to move up the field.

Importantly, both cars are straight and ready to take on the 161-laps tomorrow.

We’re going to have to do some passing, but everyone is up the fight.
