Scott Pye and Warren Luff finished fifth, and James Courtney and Jack Perkins seventh at the Sandown 500, rounding out a positive endurance campaign for Mobil 1™ Racing.

That means both cars finished inside the top-five of the 2019 PIRTEK Enduro Cup, with Car No. 2 in third, and Scott and Luffy took out the Hard Charger award for most cars passed over the three events.

After a strong morning warm-up to start Sunday, where Car No. 2 was quickest, and Car No. 22 was eighth, confidence levels were high in the garage.

Most co-drivers, including Jack, started the race, but the team opted to put Scott behind the wheel, who was due to start 22nd.

Both strategies paid dividends. Jack moved the car up to 4th in the first stint, while Scott climbed all the way to eighth when he handed over to Luffy.

As they have all year, both co-drivers did a fantastic job to move the car forward, showing great pace along the way.

JC jumped in his ride at the 55-lap mark, once Jack had completed his minimum laps, while Scott got in 30-laps later.

Once the ordered settled and all the main drivers were in the car, JC was 6th and Scott 7th.

Long stints home meant both drivers had to be kind on the Dunlop SuperSofts, which they were.

Just before the final stop, Scott moved past JC to take over 6th.

A late-race issue for Shane van Gisbergen promoted both cars up a spot, but unfortunately on the last lap, Will Davidson was able to get by JC and into 6th.

All-in-all, a strong end to the weekend, when it counted, and a positive three rounds.

Now, we say goodbye to Jack and Luffy, and focus on the final round of the year around the streets of Newcastle, where we look to finish the year on a high.

“Today was a lot of fun. We knew we were going to have to pass some cars, and that’s what we did.

“The car was great today, and Luffy did an amazing job to wheel the thing up the front. He’s done an incredible job all season.

“After the warm up we were pretty confident in the car, so to finish in the top-five today and finish inside the top-three for the Enduro Cup is a credit to the entire team.

“One more to go, we will be looking to cap off the year in perfect fashion.”

“Fifth today is a really good result, thanks to everyone here at Walkinshaw Andretti United for making it happen.

“It’s a reflection on the entire enduro season really, the car has been great, and a lot of fun to drive.

“Scott’s drive in the first stint was massive, and made my life a lot easier when I jumped in.

“Once again, thanks to everyone for their support this season. Didn’t quite get a trophy but it’s been a really good three rounds.”

James Courtney

“All in all, seventh isn’t a bad day at the office. We would have liked to been higher, but we will take it.

“Jack put in a ripping drive to move the car into the top four. Unfortunately the Safety Car didn’t quite fall our way in terms of timing, but that’s how things go.

“Car was really good today, it’s been good all endurance season, so let’s get to Newcastle, spray some champagne and finish it all off well.”

Jack Perkins

“Pretty good day today for everyone here. The car was good, we had good speed when I was in early, and JC did well at the end there.

“It’s been a lot of fun teaming up with JC again this year, the podium at Bathurst was something I’m not going to forget quickly that’s for sure.

“Thanks to everyone for their support this year, I’ve loved it once again, good luck to the team for the final round of the year!”
