Chaz Mostert finished seventh, and Bryce Fullwood 21st in Race 1 of the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

For Mostert, it was a positive start to the relationship, and a solid foundation to build into Sunday with.

For Fullwood, his first race as a main-game driver in the Mobil 1 Middy’s Racing No. 2 didn’t go quite to script. Damage to the right-rear on lap 10 meant time in the garage, putting him two-laps down before completing the remainder of the race.

A whirlwind Friday saw Mostert on top of the time sheets in Practice 3, which included breaking the lap-record in the process, while Fullwood was ultra-consistent across both sessions.

This morning Fullwood started in stage one of qualifying, unable to advance to part 2, resulting in a P18 start for today’s race. An important side note was that he was the qualifying rookie.

For Mostert, after advancing through stage 2 and into the shootout, he put in a ripping lap to park the Mobil 1 Appliances Online Racing No. 25 on grid position four for the 250km race.

On the 25 side of the garage, they were there or there abouts the entire 78 laps, just lacking the final bit of speed to clear the cars in front, and fight for a podium. He popped out of the second round of stops in seventh, which was where he went on to finish.

While Bryce was out of contention after the clash with the concrete fence, the positive from the situation is that he was able to continue and get a full race distance under his belt. Adelaide is always one of the toughest races of the year, and he passed the test with flying colours.

Tomorrow, we head straight into qualifying, where Bryce will start in stage 1, and Chaz in stage 2, before another 250km race to round out the weekend.

“Overall, a positive first race. We had some good battles out there, and got a solid result.

“We’ve got some good data to go through now, and hopefully we will come out stronger, but today was not a bad way to get things underway. Looking forward to tomorrow!”

Bryce Fullwood

“Definitely not the way we envisaged my first race going down.

“I made a mistake at turn 11 which I’m frustrated about, but I can’t thank the team enough for getting me back out there, especially in the time they did.

“It was good to get through a full 250km race as well in the heat, it puts any of those concerns to bed now, especially heading into Sunday.”
