We’ve got four days, and four races ahead of us this weekend, as the Australian Grand Prix plays host to Round 2 of the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

It’s a jam-packed weekend of on-track action, with two practice sessions, four qualifying sessions, and four 20-lap, 100km races in the schedule.

The big change up for this year will be that each car is required to use two different tyre compounds, hard and soft, in each race.

That means two things. The first is that strategy will be a big factor, with what tyre compound you start on, and when you change.

The other factor is that each race will have a mandatory pit stop, without fuel, so timing on how quickly the crew can get all four tyres changed will be critical.

The 5.3km track that wraps around Albert Park Lake is the polar opposite to Adelaide. It’s a long, sweeping track designed for F1 cars. It’s high-speed, and you’re in the corner for a long time, presenting a whole new challenge for our engineering-group this year, which we are looking forward to.

Chaz Mostert heads into this weekend as the reigning Larry Perkins Trophy winner, courtesy of scoring the most points across the four races in 2019, which included a race win.

Albert Park has been a happy hunting ground for the team in the past as well. We have won the most races of any team (20/76) with a winning rate of 26.3 per cent.

On-track running begins on Thursday, with practice 1 at 11:55am. Every session will be live on Fox Sports, with Channel 10’s coverage from Friday – Sunday.

“For me it’s pretty special to head back to Albert Park after winning the Larry Perkins Trophy last year. It’s really cool to be part of a new team and to keep building that momentum after Adelaide.

“It’s a new track for me, having never raced there before, so there will be a lot to learn early, but I’ve been in at the workshop on the simulator which has helped a lot.

“There was a lot to learn in Adelaide for sure, but the first round is under my belt, I know what to expect, so now we can get stuck into the rest of the season.

“It’ll be really cool to share the track with the F1 guys, I’m looking forward to that.”
