Chaz Mostert has added a trophy to the 2020 cabinet with a third-place finish in Race 19 at the NTI Townsville SuperSprint.

It was a good day all round for the team, with Bryce Fullwood coming home in eighth in a very mature drive.

Tomorrow sees two more races around Reid Park, before we do it all again next weekend.

Qualifying

Chaz 3rd, Bryce 8th

The day started well. Chaz topped both stages of qualifying, and Bryce made it into the shootout comfortably.

Bryce didn’t have the luxury of greens in the one-lap dash, which made his lap all the more impressive, while Chaz just missed a front-row start.

Mostert jumped Reynolds off the line, and slotted into second, right behind Jamie Whincup.

They put a small gap on the field, before Chaz stopped on lap 16 for four tyres. Whincup covered the next lap.

Mostert put pressure on him until the closing stages, when a fast finishing Cam Waters, who stopped late and had tyre advantage, found his way by, pushing Chaz back to third.

For Bryce, he narrowly avoided the carnage at turn-two on the opening lap. He grazed the outside wall after contact from the inside, but got away with superficial damage and pressed on.

He stopped a lap after Chaz, and then was able to pick off Winterbottom, Holdsworth and Pye late to move into eighth, a great result for the rookie.

Chaz Mostert

“I’m so pumped for our partner group, fans, team and families back home with today, it’s nice to reward them all that’s for sure, and really cool to get a trophy which we’ve been working hard towards.

“The car was really good in qualifying, we got a nice bag of points, and we’ve got tomorrow to see how we go with the next two races.

“There’s still a lot of improvement in the car which is pleasing, but it’s definitely nice to stand up there on the podium again.”

Bryce Fullwood

“Really happy to convert some speed into a result today. It was a good day for us.

“I was super pumped to get into the shootout, and was happy with our effort on old tyres.

“We got a little lucky in the turn-two debacle, but had solid race-pace after that, so overall a really good day for us, and the team with Chaz on the podium.

“Looking forward to building on that tomorrow.”
