Qualifying at The Mountain is in the books, and Chaz Mostert has booked a ticket to the Top 10 Shootout tomorrow afternoon.

As for Bryce Fullwood, he fell agonisingly short of making the shootout in his rookie year, setting the 11th best time, just 0.05 away from 10th.

The session started in sunshine, but from early on in the piece, Car No. 25 battled a slight electrical gremlin.

Chaz did an incredible job to get the car consistently in the top 10 the entire session.

With six-minutes to go, just as cars set out for the final run, rain started to fall, which was enough to ensure no one would be going any quicker. For Bryce, it meant he was unable to have one last crack at putting himself back in the 10.

For a kid to be so close to making the shootout, in his first ever Bathurst qualifying session is an impressive effort. He and Kurt Kostecki will start from 11th on Sunday.

Chaz will be third out in the shootout, which gets underway at 5:05pm AEDT Saturday afternoon.

Bruce Stewart

“Today was a really good day for the team. To have Chaz inside the 10 and in the shootout was a great result and a reward for the No. 25’s speed and consistency so far this week.

“It will be great to see him have a lap of The Mountain to himself tomorrow, but importantly, I think we’ve got a solid race package for Sunday as well.

“For Bryce, sometimes you have to remind yourself he is a rookie, because his performances are far above that. I know he was as disappointed as anyone to miss out on the shootout, but to be 11th at the end of qualifying, in a such a high quality field, in your first ever Bathurst qualifying with the eyes of the world on you, just shows the calibre of the young man.

“He and Kurt have both done extremely well to so far this weekend, and I can’t wait to watch them on Sunday.”
