Night one of the Sydney swing is a wrap!

After two practice sessions on Friday, one of those under lights, both cars headed straight into qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Chaz advanced to the shootout where he would go on to record the ninth fastest lap, while Bryce would start from 17th.

After 104 days, the lights went out and racing was officially back.

Drivers, to their credit, all behaved well as the race set into a rhythm. Chaz stopped just after lap 10 for right hand tyres, and thanks to a good stop in the lane, was able to undercut Davison.

Bryce went the opposite strategy, going long but also only taking two tyres, but didn’t have the car speed to come through the field late.

Chaz ran as high as fourth in the closing stages, but was passed late by cars who took four-tyres during the pitstop with a handful of laps to go.

With both drivers only taking the two new tyres, they will have flexibility with strategy tomorrow.

Sunday brings two back-to-back qualifying sessions from 10:30am, before two further 32-lap races to round out weekend 1.

Chaz Mostert

“It was nice to be back racing that’s for sure.

“Qualifying wasn’t our best session, I think we made a gain in direction before the shootout though which translated into the race.

“The guys did a great job in the stop to get me back on my way which definitely helped us. Still some work to be done overnight, we need to get the quali car a bit better to give us track position early, and then see what we can do.”

Bryce Fullwood

“Tricky evening overall, we lacked a little bit of pace in the car to come through at the end to be honest which hurt us.

“There’s some positives to build from in the car overnight, we will put our heads together and see what we can do before qualifying tomorrow and get the car a but closer to the front.”
