Saturday night was a race that had it all. Safety car, rain at the end, a tyre we haven’t run here, and a grandstand finish.

In the end, Chaz just missed out in the fight for a podium in fifth, while Bryce had it all against him, finishing 23rd.

Both cars started outside of the top 10 and opted for the hard tyre. A safety car on lap 6 brought the entire field into the lane, causing a double stack for Bryce.

Chaz stayed on the hard tyre for the second stint, while Bryce put the super soft on.

While initially moving forward, Bryce found the going tough after an extended period in the stint, with dramatic degradation on car 2, which brought him in as the first to do their second stop.

Chaz went a little longer, stopping with 28 to go, and putting the super soft on.

With 10 to go, the rain started to fall, making conditions slippery, but not enough for wets.

Chaz hunted down the leaders lap by lap, catching them with three to go as the top seven cars all fought for the podium. He just missed out, but it was a big improvement from his starting position of 12th.

Unfortunately for Bryce, that rain meant it was hard going on the harder tyre with less grip. It was one of those nights.

We are back tomorrow for another 250km race to round out our time in Sydney.

Chaz Mostert

“We were in the fight at the end that’s for sure. It was a crazy old race, disappointing to miss that podium but we will take 5th from where we started.

“Need to find some qualifying speed overnight, and will be looking to finish our Sydney trip in style tomorrow.”

Bryce Fullwood

“Tough night that’s for sure, not much went our way in the end.

“The focus turned pretty quickly to tomorrow, what we can improve on, and a fresh start, so I’m looking forward to that. The boys were straight to work, let’s hope we can finish here with a positive result.”
