Walkinshaw Andretti United has today announced Dr. Geoffrey Slater has joined the Team for the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.

Slater joins Walkinshaw Andretti United as Race Engineer, working alongside Nick Percat in Car No. 2 for the upcoming season.

Geoff holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wollongong. He started his professional career in motorsport as a data engineer for Britek Motorsport in 2005. Since then, Geoff has engineered winning cars for DJR and Tekno Autosports, which included engineering the latter to second in Supercars Championship, as well as winning both the 2016 Bathurst 1000 and Bathurst 12 hour events. He also has had successful stints in other touring car and GT categories within Australasia.

In late 2018, Geoff moved to the USA to work with the BMW factory backed Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the WeatherTech Championship. His achievements include winning the 2020 Daytona 24 hour (GTLM class), winning the 2020 Michelin Endurance Cup and second in the WeatherTech Championship. Due to the disruption of COVID, Geoff and his family returned to Australia in 2021 and back into the Supercars category.

He has now commenced his role with Walkinshaw Andretti United, alongside all other members of the 2021 Walkinshaw Andretti United engineering team.

The Slater/Percat duo will have their first day on track together at the Supercars pre-season test day before Round 1.

Geoffrey Slater

“I’m really excited to be joining Walkinshaw Andretti United, and to be working with Nick in 2022.

“It’s a fantastic time to be joining the Team after such an impressive finish to the season, but also to be starting alongside Nick in his return is great, it means we can both familiarise ourselves together, and understand the ins and the outs of the Team.

“There’s no doubt Nick is one of the top talents in the sport, and in speaking to the rest of the team, the motivation is clearly there to continue to improve which excites me. I’m looking forward to what 2022 holds.”

Bruce Stewart

“It’s fantastic to have someone of Geoff’s calibre joining us for 2022, and I’m really excited about what he can add to our Team, and also what he can achieve alongside Nick.

“It will be great to see the rapport he and Nick will build together, as we work towards the opening round of the season.

“Importantly, it’s another step in the right direction for us as a Team and the journey that we are on over the past few seasons, so to have someone with the talent of Geoff as a part of our engineering team, working alongside Nick, is going to be exciting to see.”
