We’re backkkkk!

After a few months at home, engines are firing back up for the 2022 Supercars Championship, as we kick the year off with a bang at the Sydney SuperNight.

Not only is it the first race of the year, but Nick Percat’s first event back with the Team, a big weekend all round.

Format

Their will be no easing into the year, with two 300km races across the weekend, one under lights on Saturday night, and one on Sunday afternoon.

Before that, their will be two practice sessions on Friday, one of those under lights, with qualifying and a Top 10 Shootout on each race day.

Tyres

We’ve got a new tyre!... but we might not be needing it.

This weekend see’s the debut of all new Dunlop Super Soft, which teams haven’t been permitted to test on yet. In fact, we won’t use it until the race, when all drivers have one set to use. So, Nick and Chaz will get a feel for it for the first time after a stop, or at the start or end of the race… Will be one to watch!

The rest of the weekend will be on the soft tyre, but the wets will be on very important.

The Stats

Nick Percat was the pole sitter for our last race at Sydney Motorsport Park in 2021, which went on to be red flagged, so he comes in with good form. He’s also a race winner here in 2020.

Chaz has had seven podiums and two wins here, so knows the place well!

Weather

There has been plenty of rain around Sydney this week, and looks to be more on the radar.

We’re going to need the wets at some stage, but hopefully the sun is on its way over the weekend.

“Man it’s good to be back, I can’t wait to get back behind the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 and get the year underway.

“It’s been a great off-season, especially after how last year finished, but everyone turned their attention to 2022 pretty quickly, making sure we start the year on the front foot. As they say, everyone starts the weekend on zero points, so we’re looking to bank a heap of points early.

“It’s awesome to have Nick joining us this weekend, it’s been great working with him so far, so keen I’m keen to work closely with him this year to put our team in the best position.

“There’s a lot of factors at play this weekend, like the Super Soft and the weather, so lets see how it all goes!”

Nick Percat

“I’m just really excited for this weekend, it feels like home, and after a good break over summer, I’ve been waiting for this for a while now.

“I’m looking for a nice clean weekend. I have a lot to learn with the new package and the way my new engineer Geoff runs the car. I was happy to see the format come out as the two 300km races which gives me plenty of time to understand what this car needs and what I need to do to maximise it.

“It’s been great working with Chaz, we’ve gotten along really well and he’s fast so no doubt I’ll be leaning on him as I get more familiar with the car.

“This track is really tricky to make the cars work, but I can tell everyone has been working really hard over summer to start as strongly as possible.

“It’s a full circle moment, returning back to WAU, even with supporters of mine and the team like Morris, so I can’t wait for it all to begin.”
