It was a solid end to the NTI Townsville 500, highlighted by Chaz having a crack at the podium, and Nick making up a massive 13 spots in the race.

The day started with qualifying, where Chaz put himself in the shootout, going on to qualify seventh. Unfortunately for Nick, the car balance just wasn’t there for him in qualifying, setting the 25th best lap.

The final 250km race of the weekend followed a similar strategy path to yesterday, with most cars saving the Super Soft tyre until the end.

Nick was the big mover and shaker early, up 10 spots in the opening 20 laps to set his charge up, while Chaz moved into the top five.

Both cars took the Dunlop Super Soft with less than 30 remaining. Chaz went aggressive to try and grab a trophy, eventually slipping back down to fifth, while Nick picked off car after car late, to move into 12th.

We didn’t get the trophies we were hoping for coming in, but a productive end to the weekend gives us more to build on heading to The Bend next.

Chaz Mostert

“Much better end to the day today. We went aggressive halfway through that final stint to see if we could sneak on to the podium, but it wasn’t to be, but still, better way to finish the weekend.

“I think we found some answers over the weekend, still plenty of work to do before The Bend, but definitely went the right way with the car from Friday to Sunday.

“Was an awesome weekend up in Townsville, always a super cool event, but eyes forward to The Bend now.”

Nick Percat

“Overall, we’ve got some homework to do from qualifying, but to move forward so far in the race was a highlight and a better way to finish that’s for sure.

“Shoutout to the team for turning the car around, pit stops and strategy were great, and they didn’t give up all weekend.

“Special thanks must go to NTI for their support of this entire event this weekend, and to our entire partner group who were here, pumped to get back home to South Australia now at The Bend.”
