Chaz Mostert was 10th and Nick Percat 15th in Race 24 of the 2022 Supercars Championship at the Sandown SuperSprint.

The day started with a final practice session in mixed conditions, before qualifying after lunch. Nick was extremely unlucky after a red flag came out moments before crossing the line to complete his first flying lap. Despite the lap looking like it would have comfortably had him safe for Q2, it meant he would have to start in 21st.

Chaz advanced to Q2, but lacked some overall speed, qualifying in 13th.

As the Melbourne sun set, both cars got away cleanly in a relatively uneventful opening stage of the race.

Both cars were able to move forward a few positions early, while resisting the temptation to stop.

Chaz stopped exactly on half race distance, and Nick two laps later. That allowed Chaz to undercut Brodie Kostecki, while Nick was locked in a battle to the end.

Both moved forward, but just lacked some overall pace today. We will put our heads together overnight and find some speed across both, before qualifying starts our Sunday.

Nick Percat

“Definitely unlucky in qualifying today which put us on the back foot in the race, but good to move forward and make some ground. Still definitely lacking some speed, but we are working at it non-stop.

“The guys did a great job in pit lane again today; see how we go tomorrow.”

Chaz Mostert

“Bit of a tricky day for us, we tried a lot of things overnight and today, just haven’t got the speed for those front guys at the moment, but we’re not giving up.

“We will keep working at it tonight, nice job by the crew again today, they’ve been speedy all year, thanks to everyone for their support.”
