It was a solid start to our trip across the ditch, with both cars finishing inside the top 10, and Chaz just missing out on a podium in the first of three races this weekend.

After strong practice showings with both cars, Chaz went on to qualify third, but a tyre strategy didn’t go quite to plan on Car 2, with Nick qualifying 11th.

When the race got underway, Nick avoided the carnage despite being the meat in the sandwich off the line.

A bunch of cars stopped early, but both WAU cars stayed out until mid-distance until they visited the lane.

Once again, the pitstops were lightening quick from the crew, with both making spots in the lane.

Despite a late safety car, that was about it for any on-track drama, with the field finding it difficult to pass late in the race, despite strong speed on an older tyre.

Tomorrow, we return for back-to-back qualifying sessions, which will become really important, with two more 41-lap races to round out the weekend.

Chaz Mostert

“Overall it was a good day, it’s always disappointing when you finish fourth and are so close to a trophy, but it’s still a great result for everyone.

“Car has been good all weekend so far, it’s just really hard to pass around here when you are behind someone, so hopefully we can qualifying strongly again and keep track position.

“The stops were incredible again so well done to the crew, and we’ve got a bit to work with tomorrow – can’t wait.”

Nick Percat

“Much better result today from where we have been so that’s really pleasing for everyone in the team, nice to see the Mobil 1 NTI wagon further up the front.

“Qualifying was a little disappointing just because of the speed we had in the car but we’ve got two more sessions to maximise that tomorrow.

“I think the speed late was important and puts us in a good position tomorrow, the stops were great again, so I’m looking forward to seeing what Sunday brings.”
