Chaz Mostert has added a new surfboard to the collection courtesy of his third-place finish in Race 31 at the Gold Coast, with Nick Percat finishing inside the 10.

The day started with qualifying, with Chaz putting the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 in the Top 10 Shootout thanks to setting the second quickest time, with Nick just missing out, qualifying 12th.

It’s been a hot and humid weekend, putting drivers through a gruelling 250kms, with cabin temperatures north of 60 degrees.

Surprisingly, the race went flag to flag without a safety car meaning there was no respite.

Both cars went longer in the first stint to ensure tyre life late in the race, with Chaz sitting in the top four for most of the race.

It turned into a fight for the podium in the last 10 laps, with Chaz locked on the rear bar of David Reynolds in second, with a mirror full of Will Davison who was fourth. He held his nerve and secured third.

Nick was in a bit of a race of his own today, unable to make much ground, but quicker than any threat behind.

He did well to move inside the 10, as the Car 2 crew will put their heads together tomorrow to get the Mobil 1 NTI Racing car further up the front.

Tomorrow we return for another 20-minute qualifying session, Top 10 Shootout and final 250km race.

Chaz Mostert

“Was hot out there that’s for sure but awesome to add another surfboard to the collection here on the Gold Coast, nice to reward the team with a good result.

“It’s definitely tricky to pass especially around here, but we were locked in a good battle at the end with Dave and Will so that was cool.

“Will aim for the shootout again tomorrow and see if we can move a bit higher and have another good day at the races.”

Nick Percat

“Tough afternoon out there, we just didn’t quite have the speed to fight the guys ahead, but I think we maximised what we had today which was important.

“Was pretty lonely out there for a while, but the car is straight, we moved into the 10, and live to fight another day.

“Wil focus on qualifying tomorrow, try and get a clean run in and see what we can do.”
