Saturday: Race 5

Chaz: 4th
Nick: 16th

The morning started off with two back-to-back qualifying sessions for Race 5 and 6. The first qualifying session was red flagged before Nick could set his flying lap, leaving him starting P25 for the race with Chaz P10.

Qualifying for Race 6 went smoother with Chaz starting on the front row in P2 and Nick P16.

Race 6 was absolute chaos, huge drama starting on the opening lap with another car fire which sent out the safety car early. Chaz and Nick had great starts, both had near misses with chaos everywhere.

Once again, both cars started on the Dunlop Super Soft tyres running as long as possible to minimise their time on the Dunlop Hard tyre.

Chaz had to put his reflexes to the test in his Mobil 1 Optus Racing No.25 after having to dodge a car spinning in front of him as well as a wheel on the loose in the pits.

After some post-race penalties Chaz ended up 4th and Nick up nine spots to 16th.

Eyes are forward on tomorrow with the final race of the Australian Grand Prix which starts at 10.25(AEST) for the 13 lap Race 6.

Nick Percat

“A massive thank-you goes out to all the boys and girls who worked until the early hours of the morning fixing the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 car so we could get it out for qualifying and the race today.

We had a few little gremlins in qualifying so to be starting 16th for Race 6 is pretty awesome.

As for the race today, not even sure where to start, there was plenty happening but in the end, we moved forward nine spots in a short amount of laps… we will take it. Eyes forward on tomorrow.”

Chaz Mostert

“Qualifying conditions this morning were really difficult, so to get a front row start in tomorrows race will be great.

A short amount of laps in today’s race meant it was always going to be hard to move forward, if you offered me fourth this morning, I’d take it. We have a good opportunity tomorrow to end the weekend on a high.

A special shoutout for the crew who got Nicks car back out on track this morning, I love this team!”
