The morning started off with a three-part qualifying session for Race 7. Nick and Chaz made it through to part-two, but struggled for qualifying pace, resulting in them starting P14 and P15.

Race 7 was a tough one, being a short track with seven corners, it’s hard to pass, so track position is key here.

The Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 car and Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 car went with split strategies.

Nick ran a short first stint coming into the pits for a two Dunlop Soft tyre change, seven laps in with the undercut strategy to run in clear air.

After running a longer first stint, Chaz came into the lane for a two-tyre change on lap 27 rejoining the field in P14.

With fresher tyres, Chaz was able to make some late race passes to finish up P11.

We’ve got some homework to do tonight with eyes forward to tomorrow for the final two qualifying sessions and two 100km races of the Perth SuperSprint.

Nick Percat

“We rolled the dice on strategy today, running a shorter first stint, the strategy didn’t quite go our way.

It’s important we nail quali tomorrow as track position’s key around here, this track is hard to pass unless you have great race pace, which we lacked today.

Chaz Mostert

“Tough slog today, went long to try and make our way forward by running a longer first stint, but it wasn’t enough.

“We struggled today given our performance in quali so a big focus on setting up a stronger quali package tomorrow.

It’s tough to pass round here but we know we have the race pace to be running up the front, keen to get after it tomorrow.”
