Race 13

Chaz: 8th
Nick: 19th

It was a disappointing qualifying session, both cars tried different directions to get their cars a bit happier around the track, Chaz Mostert lining up P17 and Nick Percat P26.

Being a SuperSprint format and starting towards the rear of the grid, both cars took a chance with their race car set-up to help them move forward.

Race 13 was chaotic, both the Mobil 1 NTI Racing Car 2 and Mobil 1 Optus Racing Car 25 had ripper starts with Nick up five positions in the first three laps.

Chaos ensued on Lap 5 when Cam Waters car caught fire which sent the safety car out, resulting in double stacking in the pits, Chaz benefiting off this, moving him up to P11 and Nick maintaining P21.

Mid race, Randle ran Nick wide on the final corner, pushing him back three positions and causing residual damage which affected his straight-line speed for the rest of the race.

Chaz was one of the biggest movers and shakers of the race up nine spots after pushing hard late in the race with a solid overtake passing three cars in one corner.

We need to do a better job in qualifying tomorrow, to ensure we are up the pointy end to be in the fight for the two races tomorrow.

Cars will hit the track at 10am ACST, for the first of two back-to-back qualifying sessions.

Nick Percat

“Tough day for the Mobil 1 NTI Racing Car 2 today, qualifying didn’t go to plan which set us back for the race.

“Had some big battles out there, it was mayhem, we made some gains in some areas, but there is more to look at overnight.

“We moved up seven spots which is positive, but we need to make sure we do a better job in qualifying tomorrow so can start further up the grid.”

Chaz Mostert

“Pretty wild afternoon out there today. Qualifying we just weren’t in the window today, which meant we were always going to battle a little bit.

“We took a swing at it for the race today and I think we found a better direction, the car wasn’t too bad and we could move forward, so we need to keep that going overnight and hopefully will get a bit further up the field tomorrow morning.

“Glad to see Cam okay and out of the car, pretty scary moment so glad he is alright.”
