Round 6 of the 2023 Supercars Championship is a wrap, with two 250km races at the NTI Townsville 500 coming to a close today.

It was a tough ending to the weekend, with Chaz Mostert’s race ending abruptly on lap four, with power steering issues.

The morning started off with a qualifying session which saw Nick Percat in P22, Chaz put together a strong lap qualifying P3 securing him in the Top 10 Shootout.

Unfortunately, Chaz made contact with the wall on the exit of turn 2, damaging his front, unable to complete his lap, placing him P10 for the 250km Race 17.

Nick had a great opening lap on the soft tyre, gaining four positions with some aggressive overtakes.

After the success of the three-stop strategy yesterday, the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 ran this strategy again, running a longer middle stint to put on four green Dunlop Soft tyres to take him home.

Nick’s strong race pace in the final laps saw him pass Cam Waters with three laps to go, securing 13th position, up nine spots from where he started.

That wraps up the weekend here at the NTI Townsville 500. We head back to HQ tonight to get straight into preparations for the Sydney SuperNight where cars hit the track on July 28.

Chaz Mostert

“Tough way to end the weekend with the failure on lap 4, the boys did a huge job to get it back out there after the shootout so I’m guttered for them.

Think we found some more direction this weekend, especially with the quali car today, but yeah, still really disappointing to be watching from the garage today.”

Nick Percat

“Bit of a rollercoaster weekend, the team did an amazing job to get the car faster in today’s race, it’s great to be able to put on a show for NTI and the fans.

“Today we had a development swing in qualifying, it didn’t work in our favour, qualifying P22 but we drove through to 13th , up nine positions.

We have made a step forward with the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 this weekend so eyes are forward to the Sydney SuperNight in a couple of weeks time.”
