We are going under lights for Round 7 of the 2023 Supercars Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park.

It’s a milestone weekend for the team as we celebrate 30 years with Mobil 1, at the very track where the partnership took their first race win.

The Track

Sydney Motorsport Park is a big fast and flowing track, at 3.9km long and a top speed of 265km/h.

With more than ¾ of the lap spent turning, it’s important that the car balance is right and that is carries good mid-corner speed, otherwise the drivers will be in for a tough race.

The track offers plenty of passing opportunities, keep an eye out for the big run into turn one and the action area of turn five and six, this track rewards the committed and brave.

Format

Cars hit the track on Saturday for a busy day, with two practice sessions leading into a three-part qualifying in the late afternoon, to set the grid for the 200km Race 18 under lights.

It’s back to daytime running on Sunday, with Chaz and Nick rolling straight into a 15-minute qualifying session which sets the grid for the 140km Race 19, where lights will go out at 3.30pm AEST.

Tyres

We will be running the Dunlop Soft tyre all weekend.

Pitstops

Fuel rigs are back for Race 18, with both races requiring a minimum of one compulsory pitstop and two tyres.

Weather

The weather is looking good, with sun on the forecast across the weekend and a high of 20 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s awesome to be back in Sydney and to be racing under lights again, it’s cool for not only the drivers but entertaining for the fans!

“We made a step forward with the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 in Townsville, it’s important we find the right balance in the two practice sessions on Saturday so we can put our best foot forward for the weekend.”

Chaz Mostert

“Huge weekend for us in Sydney, celebrating 30 years with Mobil 1, so we are all keen to make it one to remember that’s for sure.

“I love racing under lights, SMP is a great track with plenty of passing opportunities, let’s put on a good show for the fans!

“We found some direction with the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 quali car in Townsville, we need to be starting up the pointy end, so quali is still a big focus for us.”
