Walkinshaw Andretti United in conjunction with Mobil 1™, will this weekend celebrate the 30th anniversary of their partnership together at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Both the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 and Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 Ford Mustang GT’s will adorn a special tribute bonnet celebrating the milestone, in a position on the car that has become iconic with the blue and red logo.
The Mobil 1 partnership with the Team began in 1994, then known as Walkinshaw Racing, with drivers Peter Brock and Tomas Mezera.
The partnership took its first win in Round 7 of the Australian Touring Car Championship with Brock at the wheel, fittingly at Sydney Motorsport Park. The win also marked the first win of the Holden Racing Team.
Since then, the success has continued over the three decades, with six Bathurst 1000 wins, six Drivers Championships, and five Teams Championships among the 188 race wins and 274 further podiums.
The partnership between the two runs much deeper than a sponsorship, with Mobil 1 – the world’s leading synthetic oil – providing essential technical support over the journey, while being the lifeblood of the Walkinshaw Racing engine shop in Clayton.
Mobil 1 played an essential role in wins like Bathurst 2002, the infamous plastic bag race where engine temps soared over 115 degrees, right through to Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth’s Bathurst win in 2021.
