We are two days down into the Bathurst 1000, and qualifying is in the books.

Chaz Mostert has earned himself a spot in the Top 10 Shootout thanks to being third in qualifying, while Bryce Fullwood went agonisingly close to joining him, qualifying in 12th, which is where he and Warren Luff will start the great race.

It’s been a productive week so far on both sides of the garage.

The Mobil 1 Appliances Online No. 25 has been inside the top three the entire weekend, which is a great sign for both Chaz Mostert and co-driver Lee Holdsworth, who has settled in beautifully.

Lee was first in the only co-driver only session so far on Thursday, showing why he was the provisional pole sitter this time last year.

On the Mobil 1 Middy’s Racing side, Bryce and Luffy have continued to chip away at their balance and pace, improving every session which is a positive sign on direction.

They can now focus solely on the race package at their disposal as they build for Sunday.

Tomorrow we have two final practice sessions, one of them co-drivers only, before the Top 10 Shootout begins at 5:05pm.

Chaz Mostert

“Nice to be up the pointy end so far, but it’s very early days.

“Lee has been keeping me on my toes through practice with how quick he is, I just pipped him in practice yesterday so I was nearly letting him qualify today!

“In all serious he is doing a great job, the car has been really nice to drive all week, so looking forward to continuing to work on it tomorrow, and then get a lap to myself tomorrow afternoon which is always really cool.”

Lee Holdsworth

“We rolled out of the truck pretty strongly this weekend, which is always a nice way to start, and I felt comfortable from the first lap. We’ve made some nice improvements over the week to date, but it’s early days, and Sunday is always the focus.

“You can always rely on Chaz in qualifying so I’m excited to watch him in the shootout tomorrow afternoon, but before that, getting a few laps myself.”

Bryce Fullwood

“Shattered to just miss the shootout tomorrow that’s for sure, I gave it everything I had, but overall we are still in a good position to contend.

“Luffy has been on the podium from 21st here, so as we know it’s a really long race where anything can happen.

“The positive sign is that the car is getting better each session, so the direction is good, we’ve just got to do the job on Sunday now.”

Warren Luff

“Bryce did a great job today, and while I know he was disappointed to miss the shootout but he’s put us in a strong position for Sunday’s 161 laps.

“We’re finding more speed in the car each session which is always a good sign, and we’ve got two sessions tomorrow to continue to build to Sunday.

“Looking forward to seeing what The Mountain has in store for us.”
