Tough, the only way to describe Sunday afternoon on the Gold Coast.
After a promising start to the day, Ryan Wood’s day was effectively over on lap 1 after being sent into the fence from behind, putting him a lap down, while Chaz, while fighting for a podium, was forced to stop an extra time due to a refueling error on our behalf.
The morning started off with qualifying, which showed an immediate bounce back. Ryan showed what he was made of, finishing up P4, with Chaz in P7, securing tickets to the Top 10 shootout.
Leaving nothing on the table in the shootout, Chaz put together a fast lap making a small mistake on turn 4 costing him a few tenths which put him on second row in P4.
Ryan was on for a good lap but as he got to turn 10 he received a kerb strike which eliminated his lap time, starting P9 for the 250km race.
It would be a hot and grueling race, after yesterday’s troubles it was time for redemption, the boys were hungry for some good results.
Chaos struck on lap 1 at turn 11 when the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 got hit in the rear by car 11, wedging him in the tyre barrier, putting him a lap down once it was dragged out.
We did what we could to try and get that lap back, but with no further safety cars, it wasn’t to be.
The Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 was one of the quickest cars in the opening stint, keeping it clean and with eyes forward, Chaz worked his way up to P3 early.
Unfortunately, trouble struck again during the second pit stop, which forced him back in for fuel 10 laps later.
It’s a mistake we will ensure never happens again. Win as a team, lose as a team.
Despite the speed all weekend, we didn’t capitalise this weekend.
We will come out swinging in Adelaide for the final round.
Ryan Wood
I can’t seem to catch any luck this weekend, I really wanted to reward the crew with a strong result today but it clearly wasn’t to be.
It’s been a big learning experience this weekend, I’ve never been to this track and after yesterday I really wanted to drive a lot cleaner today which I did, unfortunately I was a lap down so my race was pretty much over before we got to lap 2.
A massive thanks to the crew, they have put in a lot of hours this weekend, I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys and girls behind me, and a huge thanks to our partners for backing me and the support they always show. Bring on Adelaide.
Chaz Mostert
Not the weekend we wanted, it’s been a tough one, not much went our way so we will definitely be hoping for more luck in Adelaide.
We will debrief this one of course, learn from it, and we will be all in on Adelaide.
We are a team, and always will be, so thanks to everyone for their support.
