We’re headed north for round 14 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, as the streets of Surfers Paradise play host to the final enduro of the season, the Gold Coast 600.

After Scott Pye and Warren Luff’s second place at Bathurst just over a week ago, the team is itching to get back out on a racetrack, one that has been friendly to us in the past. Who could forget 2015 when James Courtney and Jack Perkins stood on the top step of the podium together.

The weekend holds two 300km races around the concrete canyon, one Saturday, and one Sunday.

Saturday’s race will be a special one, as we celebrate JC’s 400th race start, and incredible achievement. He, and co-driver Jack will be looking to make it one to remember.

The Gold Coast usually turns it on weather wise this time of year, but looking ahead to the forecast, it’ll be wet early in the piece.

South East Queensland has been on the receiving end of a downpour over the last week, so the wets will be used at some point across the weekend.

Any major mistake around the streets of the Gold Coast usually results in a car hitting the concrete wall. Add in a wet track and it’s going to be a hold your breath type weekend... and that’s why we love it.

It’s also the last time we will see Luffy and Jack behind the wheel this year. They have done an incredible job the last two events. Both guys have showed some super speed this year.

Being a street circuit, full commitment 100% of the time is required. You have to be aggressive into the chicane along the back straight, and the last corner provides a great opportunity to fire it down the inside; keep an eye out for a few moves to be made there over the weekend.

After the disappointment of their early exit at Bathurst, JC and Jack will be on a mission to get a result, especially considering the pace they showed across the week, while Scott and Luffy will be looking to go one better this round.

New this year will be a top-10 shootout on both Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m really excited to be back on the Gold Coast.

“The way Bathurst finished for us was disappointing, I was shattered for the team, but we still took some positives from it.

“The car speed was great all weekend, and the race stated well, so we’ve got to bring that momentum into this weekend.

“Having my 400th race start will be special, I can’t believe it’s at 400 already, but to do it around family and friends on the Gold Coast will be pretty cool.

“It would be great to stand on the top step of the podium with my little mate Jacko again!”

“This is a track that is obviously quite special to me, and I’d love nothing more than to grab another win around here.

“The car speed at Bathurst was fantastic, the guys have all been working really hard, so I’m feeling positive heading in.

“It would be a perfect day if we can get a win for JC in his 400th start, that’s a special achievement and I’m proud of him.

“The weather looks like it’ll spice things up so that will make it interesting.”

“The result at Bathurst was fantastic for myself, Luffy and the whole team, but everyone moved on to focusing on this weekend pretty quickly.

“It’s always really cool coming to the Gold Coast. The atmosphere is great, everyone gets behind the event, and the track pushes you to the limits.

“Luffy has done a stellar job all year, so we will be having a crack that’s for sure.

“I can’t wait to get out there.”

“The Gold Coast 600 is always a really cool event, and it’s just around the corner from home which is nice.

“The whole team did a great job at Bathurst, it was nice for everyone to be rewarded with a podium for all their hard work, and Scott drove extremely well.

“Street circuits are always a thrill, especially when you’re inches off the concrete wall. I love it around here.”
