The Supercars field headed to Interlagos, and returned to the fan-voted Phillip Island for Round 8 of the All Stars Eseries, with Chaz Mostert once again claiming two podium finishes, while Bryce Fullwood couldn’t find the luck he needed to convert his pace.

Qualifying

It was a solid start to the night, with Chaz collecting a pair of fourths in the two sessions, while Bryce was too far behind him, with 13th at Interlagos and 10th and Phillip Island.

Race 1

Chaz 3rd, Bryce 20th

Chaz collected his first podium of the night with a great drive. After stopping early, he took the lead of the race on lap-five, undercutting Shane van Gisbergen, but wasn’t able to hold of he and Anton de Pasquale on fresh tyres at the end.

Bryce’s race was ruined via a huge accident, as Fabian Coulthard got in the grass on the entry to turn four, couldn’t stop the car, and cleaned Bryce up. It was scarily similar to the JC accident in 2013 there when he broke his leg.

Race 2

Chaz 8th, Bryce 18th

After a pit lane penalty was handed to Chaz for contact with McLaughlin on lap-one, he could have dropped his head and finished down the back. What he did was the opposite, carving his way through the field from 15th to eighth in the closing laps in one of the drives of the day.

Bryce got away well, but was forced to take a detour and early stop after early contact. He was able to move past a handful of cars in the last few laps, showing the pace he had.

Race 3

Chaz 3rd, Bryce 12th

In true reverse grid fashion, lap 1 was absolute chaos, with cars spinning and bouncing back onto the track left right and centre.

An early safety car saw Bryce in eight and Chaz 17th in the train.

Unfortunately for Bryce, he locked the rears just after the restart which saw him cop a big hit from behind, giving him damage. That changed the strategy on stops, but he did well to claw his way back through to 12th.

Chaz had the angry eyes on again, fighting his way through the pack over the 20-laps to claim his second podium of the night, right on the tail of the top-three.

Chaz Mostert

“It was really cool to go back to Phillip Island, since it was one of the first tracks we raced on in the Eseries, so it was really good to see how quickly we have made improvements over that time.

“Brazil was a track I really enjoyed on the sim this week, big curbs, nice and flowing, it was a lot of fun in a Supercar.

“To come away with two thirds and the eighth even with a drive-through penalty was a good result. Hopefully we can stay in that top-five in the championship and keep the points rolling for the next couple of weeks.”

Bryce Fullwood

“Just wasn’t our night tonight unfortunately, a few things happened out of control, and a few mistakes meant results just didn’t fall our way.

“That accident at Phillip Island was a big one. I turned into turn four as normal and then copped a huge hit in the rear which hurt that race, which was a shame because I think we were on for a good result there.

“We’ve got two rounds to go, so I’m really focussed on closing out the season on a high before we get back into the real stuff.”
